Navan Trekkers is affiliated to Mountaineering Ireland and club membership insures all members through that governing body. Membership forms are available here. Full payment instructions are included on the form, cost is €40 per annum. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October. Navan Trekkers is an adult only club, membership is restricted to over 18s. Dogs are not permitted on club walks under any circumstances.

VISITORS/ASPIRING MEMBERS

Navan Trekkers recognises that aspiring members may wish to try some 'taster' walks before committing to joining and this can be facilitated under the following conditions:

1 - Visitors may come on a MAXIMUM of three (3) taster walks before committing to join, this is an insurance requirement limitation.

2 - Visitors will be required to sign a registration sheet at the start of the walk, again this in an insurance requirement.

3 - Existing members who wish to invite friends on walks are welcome to do so but please note contact should first be made with navantrekkers@gmail.com so that the visitor can be e-mailed this information sheet in advance.

TREDAGH TREKKERS

Members will be aware that Navan Trekkers has a close relationship with a sister walking club, Tredagh Trekkers, operating in Drogheda. Members of Navan Trekkers are welcome to attend Tredagh Trekkers walks (on alternate Sundays to Navan walks) but note this courtesy is not extended to visitors.

EQUIPMENT

Proper hill-walking boots, rainwear, hat and gloves are essential for Sunday walks all year round, also recommended for summer Wednesday evening walks given the vagaries of the Irish weather! It is also a good idea to bring a change of clothes with you for after the walk.

MEETING PLACES AND COMMUNICATIONS

A schedule of intended walks is e-mailed to members every January and September, this lists the general area of the proposed up-coming walks, e.g. Wicklow Mountains.

Members are advised specific details for each Sunday walk by e-mail and text a few days before each walk. Details will include the walk leader's name and contact number, walk start location and time, additional meeting place / directions as appropriate. Any queries should be addressed to the walk leader no later than Saturday evening.

On rare occasions, walks may be cancelled at short notice due to rapidly deteriorating weather or other unforeseen events. In such circumstances, members will be contacted by text advising cancellation of the walk. It should be noted that Navan Trekkers, club officers and walk leaders accept no responsibility for any inconvenience caused in such circumstances. Your attention is also drawn to the Mountaineering Ireland participation statement at this bottom of this document.

PLEASE NOTE

Anyone coming on a hike (A,B or C grade) MUST have appropriate rain gear, walking boots, rucksack and packed lunch / flask.

New walkers / aspiring members MUST complete some C walks before considering the more strenuous B walks.

Remember that even the easier C walks are of about 4 hours duration.

Navan Trekkers supports the principles of 'Leave No Trace'. Bring all rubbish home with you!

Last, and by no means least, Navan Trekkers, as a hill-walking club affiliated to Mountaineering Ireland endorses that body's participation statement:

Mountaineering Ireland recognises that hillwalking, climbing and rambling are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
